What is a Student Visa (Subclass 500)? 

​

The Subclass 485 visa is tailored for recent international graduates who: 

​

  • Have completed an eligible qualification(s) from an Australian institution, including trade certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees 

  • Are aged 35 years or under at the time of application 

  • Hold (held) a valid student visa and have met the Temporary Graduate visa study requirement 

  • Meet English language (unless exempt), health, and character criteria

Benefits of a Student Visa? 

​

1. Post-Vocational Education Work stream 

 

This stream is for graduates who have recently completed an associate degree, diploma, or trade qualification in a field relevant to an occupation in demand in Australia. The qualifications must align with an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), and you must obtain a skills assessment for your nominated occupation. This visa allows a stay of up to 18 months.

Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may stay for 5 years.​ 

​

2. Post-Higher Education Work stream 

​

This stream is available to graduates who have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher at an Australian institution. Depending on your qualification, the visa is granted for 2 to 3 years. 

​

Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may stay for 5 years. 

​

If you would like to stay longer, you may be able to apply for a Second Post-Higher Education visa. To qualify, you must have lived, worked, and/or studied in a designated regional area while holding your first Post-Higher Education Work or Post-Study Work visa. Your initial visa must have been granted on the basis of a degree or higher from an Australian institution located in a regional area.

  • Secondary applicants aged 18 years and over: AUD 1,150.00 

  • Dependent applicants under 18 years: AUD 580.00
